Reasons for the Sudden Shutdown of the Paddle Dryer

Paddle dryers boast a wide range of applications, predominantly serving industrial, pharmaceutical, and food sectors as invaluable tools for expediting processing. Despite their high operational efficiency, malfunctions remain inevitable. While damage during operation is commonplace, sudden shutdowns warrant particular attention.



Common causes of sudden shutdowns in paddle dryers include:


1. Blockages in cyclone separators, chamber outlets, conveyor lines, and similar equipment. Blockages stem from two primary causes: mechanical issues and moisture. Mechanical problems, whether bridging or reduced flow, are generally easier to address than moisture-related issues. Employ air hammers, bridge breakers, or mechanical devices that increase outlet dimensions to resolve these issues.


2. For processes where the dryer outlet temperature is 160°-180°F, the range may be 120°-130°F. If the ambient temperature is 80°F, the sufficient temperature differential causes heat loss and condensation, leading to product blockage or bridging. Insulating the vessel with cladding or a heating jacket typically resolves these issues.


3. Inadequate condenser heat dissipation. This issue resembles elevated ambient temperatures. Typically, it arises from fan failure or excessive dust accumulation on the condenser. Address it accordingly. Water-cooled models generally do not encounter this problem. Overloading, whether in temperature or pressure, will shorten service life.
